This Blog May Be Hazardous to Your Health

First off, I would like to apologize for the amount of times I have changed my blog’s theme over the past few weeks. I don’t really have an excuse for why I’ve been changing my blog like a girl changes clothes, except that I think I might have a mild form of ADHD in that I can never stay interested in one idea for too long.

Route 66 was a great theme for a while, but I didn’t want all of my posts to be about life being a journey. I like traveling, but sometimes you just have to draw the line. The idea of The Lemonade Stand was all right, but again, I don’t want to be confined to writing posts about one specific topic (in this case, turning life’s lemons into lemonade). Plus I don’t even like lemonade all that much, to be honest, so why center my whole blog around metaphorically making lemonade?

I have been thinking over the past week or so about what would be the best title for this blog. Eventually I remembered my initials: MSG (Matthew Stewart Gilliland). And I knew at that point that this blog’s title had to involve me changing MSG into an acronym that would better encapsulate the feel of this blog. After all, what better way to describe this blog than with my own initials, seeing as the major point of this blog is to describe my view of this world?

Now, you might be aware that the initials MSG don’t usually imply anything good. MSG is actually an unhealthy ingredient that many products like to brag about not having. When I see a food package with a caption reading: “No MSG!” I can’t help but be a little offended. Why do the makers of that food not want me to eat their food? And why does Panda Express put “No MSG” on their sign? I mean, would it be the worst thing if I walked into their restaurant? I think Stephanie Tanner from Full House can best express my feelings on this matter:

Obviously, I’m joking. I realize all these foods aren’t actually targeting me (or are they?), but the fact is that MSG is usually associated with something bad–with the exception of the reminder some phones give you that you have a “New Txt Msg“… I mean, who doesn’t like getting text messages?

Well starting today, MSG is going to stand for something good! The name of my blog is now Musings of a Silent Guy… MSG for short. Now I don’t have to restrict my topics to traveling through life or inspirational anecdotes! The word musings can encompass a large scope of topics, and that’s exactly what I want for my blog. So one day I can write about coping with the hardships of life, another day I can talk about the latest adventure I had in roller skating, and yet another day I can write about my irrational fear of eyes (don’t ask). As for the silent guy part of the title… well, that’s pretty self-explanatory. I’m a silent guy, and these are my musings.

I hope everyone enjoys my new and (hopefully) improved blog!
